Dalton - 6th grade, 40-hour Reading enrollment

Kerri Milyko, Ph.D. BCBA

What a difference a year makes.  I wanted to let you know that Dalton has been accepted into the National Junior Honor Society and will be inducted next week!

I can't believe how much he struggled in elementary school.  He had problems in all grades but was really bad in the 5th grade.  Everybody in the family worked with him to improve his reading but nothing we or his teachers did seem to help.   The teacher talked about putting him in a slower class but his mother fought against it because most children placed in a slow class never get out of them.  He had to take a test to see if he could be promoted to the sixth grade.  I know that most kids who struggle in elementary and middle schools tend to drop out of high school and I didn't want that to happen.

I took him to you to have him evaluated and signed him up for 1 hour sessions five days a week, all summer.  I did not know if it would help him or not.  He seemed to blossom under your tutorage; he gained self confidence and was able to concentrate for longer periods of time.

This year, sixth grade, he was on the High Honor Roll every report period.  He is very proud of that accomplishment and wants to keep his grades up.  He is also in the Band and enjoys playing the Trombone.  He is very busy and loves it.
